Earth day is next week and it really got me thinking what more I can do to love, protect, and preserve our planet and environment. There’s so many little things we do or use everyday that we can swap to become more sustainable. Here are 5 simple swaps from fashion and beauty brands that I love and recommend! I promise it’s easier than you could imagine to start implementing more sustainable practices in your daily routine 🙂
1. Ditch Cotton Pads!
This has been the biggest game changer for me because I use to buy cotton pads in bulk. I used a lot because they’re sadly all single use. There are so many options that will save you not just money, but are also eco-friendly! My favourite is these reusable bamboo pads by Tru Earth. They’re so soft and you still feel like you’re using a cotton pad, but instead of throwing it away after, you can wash and reuse it up to 1000 times! I only need one pack of 14 to have enough on rotation. Another option is a makeup removing towel, this one takes off all your makeup with just water and was my preferred makeup removing method when travelling. It’s super soft and you can wash/reuse it up to 1000 times as well!
2. A Lipstick that Protects the Bees
Guerlain’s new KISSKISS Shine Bloom lipstick is composed of 95% naturally-derived ingredients! As a pioneer in the sustainable beauty space, Guerlain has been involved in the protection of bees for over 14 years! In fact, their Abeille Royale line of products is created with advanced science that combines bee products with exceptional skincare because bee products are some of the world’s most effective natural revitalizing substances! For the moth of April, Guerlain has launched their KISSKISS Chain campaign where for every “air kiss” blown using their Instagram filter, they will post 10.000 flowers through their Women for Bees program in collaboration with Angelina Jolie and UNESCO. These new KISSKISS Shine Bloom lipsticks are available in 20 shades (you’ll definitely find a shade you love!), plus they’re formulated with Winter Rose oil extracts and Shea Butter that leaves your lips super hydrated.
3. Pureology (Sulfate-Free Vegan Hair Products)
Pureology has been one of my favourite haircare brands for a long time because their products are perfect for colour treated hair. Their commitment to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint is also clear in their formulas’ ingredients and packaging’s raw materials. Their shampoo and conditioner bottles (excluding caps), are created with 95% post-consumer recycled materials. They also minimize their use of secondary packaging and the cartons they do use are made of 100% recycled fibres. My favourite products are their Nanoworks Gold collection and Hydrate collection – both lines’ products do wonders for dry hair!
4. ÉTICA Sustainable Denim
I’m always trying to shift my closet to include more sustainable fashion pieces. Working in this space, I see how much fast fashion there is and it breaks my heart. That’s why for denim, I love ÉTICA because they employ advanced technologies to minimize waste, water, and energy consumption when producing their premium denim. The brand dramatically reduces water usage by 90%, energy consumption by 63%, and chemical usage by 70% compared to industry standards. ÉTICA also proudly exceeds fair labor standards, providing living wages, benefits, and ability-inclusive opportunities to the people who make it all happen. I love their mission and the quality of their denim is top notch!
5. Ecksand (Ethical Engagement Rings and Canadian Fine Jewelry)
I think it’s safe to say every girl loves beautiful jewelry and I love that these days, it can be sustainable as well! Ecksand is committed to creating jewelry that is better for the planet and the people. They believe in creating jewelry that lasts forever while respecting the environment throughout the process. Using the highest quality earth-friendly materials, each piece is handcrafted to last a lifetime and made from sustainable and ethical materials. I love that they’re Canadian and offer the highest quality at best price while reducing waste by reusing and recycling. I’d say hint to your partner to browse Ecksand if and engagement is on the horizon 😉
