Sweater Weather

I’ve started quite the sweater collection since it’s been an extra cold winter this year. Unfortunately, I’ve made some regrettable purchases… so I want to share some tips with you all that I wish I had when I started sweater shopping.

1. Colours
Start with solid neutrals, then add colour, pattern, and trendier prints/details. I say this because a plain white, grey or black sweater is timeless and will carry you through the seasons. My oldest white sweater is one I’ve had for 3 years, and I still wear it today!

2. Style
Try to have at least one of each of these styles:
-Turtleneck
-Crewneck
-V-neck
-Cardigan (I say invest in these, because open sweaters are easier to throw on a basic dress or top)

3. Material
It doesn’t hurt to put a little more money into quality fabric – especially if you want to stay warm.
-Cashmere: Invest in at least one of these, they have the best softness.
-Wool: My favourite is merino wool because it’s cost effective (very durably and has stretch to it).
-Cotton: Although they aren’t as warm as cashmere or wool, they’re very easy to care for and can be layered.
-Blends: Silk, nylon and other fibers are often blended with wool and cotton to give sweaters softness and elasticity, which is a must if you appreciate comfort.
-Stay away from acrylic, it pills very quickly.
